One of the first things we learned when I took cosmetology in high school was how to French twist hair. I was pretty damn good at it. It’s such a chic, classic look. I’m not a tremendous fan of the tightly wound perfectly hairsprayed styles, but I am loving the look of a more tousled, messier ones:
Needing a refresher on how to achieve this style, I cruised the web.
I found these beatiful images and a tutorial on Hair Romance (There’s a TON of great styles there)
Oh okay – she makes this look like a cinch. I was feeling pretty confident having seen this, but it somehow didn’t really work for me! Maybe my hair is just too long to be put into a ponytail first? I remembered there being more bobbie pins involved, so I continued my search and found this little illustration:
Somehow this made more sense to me. I realized I haven’t seen a french twist since those cosmo classes and now I know why – it’s pretty damn hard to do this to yourself. All I want is for my hair to look like this:
And instead I wound up with this garbage:
With no time to try a second attempt, I somehow saved my efforts by pinning a flower brooch into this mess. Not what I was initially going for, but not a total loss either!
You’ve won this battle, French twist…but the war is not over
